About this treatment
We hold emergency slots every business day in Austin. The aim of an emergency visit is to diagnose the problem and get you out of pain — definitive treatment is usually planned for a second appointment.
Call as early in the day as you can. Slots are allocated by clinical urgency, and swelling that is spreading, difficulty swallowing or trauma to an adult front tooth are treated as priorities.
If you have facial swelling that is closing your eye, spreading to your neck, or you are having difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to a hospital emergency department. That is beyond what a dental practice should manage.

- A lost filling or crown causing pain or sharp edges
- Bleeding that will not stop after an extraction
Before your appointment
- Call first — do not travel to the practice without ringing
- If a tooth has been knocked out, keep it in milk and bring it immediately
- Note when the pain started and what makes it worse
Afterwards
- Follow the pain relief instructions given — do not exceed stated doses
- Complete any antibiotic course fully if one is prescribed
- Book the follow-up before you leave; emergency treatment is rarely the end of it

Handle it by the crown, not the root. If it is an adult tooth and it is clean, try to reposition it in the socket and bite on a cloth. Otherwise keep it in milk and call us immediately. Time is critical — within the hour gives the best chance.
