Dental implants
A titanium root placed in the jawbone and restored with a custom crown — the closest thing dentistry has to replacing a tooth completely.
An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. Once the bone has integrated with it, a crown is attached on top. Nothing is done to the neighbouring teeth, which is its main advantage over a bridge.
Every case starts with a CBCT scan to measure the bone available and locate the nerve. The surgical and restorative plan is agreed jointly by Dr. Silva and Dr. Wijesinghe before we begin.
Implants have excellent long-term survival rates, but they are not maintenance-free. They can develop gum problems just as teeth can, so a maintenance programme is part of the treatment, not an optional extra.
